My Dispenser Only Dispenses Crushed Ice
Dispensers provide a swith from crushed to cube ice option, but they sometimes lock up in one function, usually crushed only. Choosing the alternative fails to change anything. A solenoid in the rear of the freezer flips part of the grinder mechanism to accomplish this purpose. See Solenoid Sample. See Wire Arm Flipper Sample.
As long as the grinding chamber is not frozen or damaged, the problem is a frozen or bad solenoid. They freeze, just like the dispenser motor itself. See Bin Issues.
However, if a solenoid get jammed, they will usually burn out and need replacement. The flipper solenoid is not a durable as the grinder motor. It is very rare that a switch or another component causes this failure. Check out the solenoid. You will find it behind the evaporator cover next to the bin motor.
