Frosted Up or Dripping Dispenser Chute

"My Dispenser is Dripping Water" or "My Chute Is All Frozen Up"

The primary reason for service calls on dispensers is air leakage into the ice chute. Humid air leaking in, drips or freezes in the chute and clogs up the works. Sample. So why does this happen? There are several reasons:

1. The cradle that opens the chute flapper cracks and jams the closing of the flapper. Broken Cradle.

2. The flapper gets old and brittle and the flat rubber seal will no longer keep out warm air. Upon inspection, you will find that the flapper is not sealing against the chute.  New Parts Kit.

3. Some other component of the mechanical linkage breaks.

4. One of the little computer boards above the dispenser has failed.

Some designs make a heater kit available that adds heat tape to the dispenser area to minimize frost.

Usually the difficult part of this task is not replacing the obviously broken parts, it is getting the cover off.
No revealing screws with hidden tabs
On a few models, torx screw are exposed once the spill tray is removed. However, few are so obvious. The trick is to jam a small screwdriver or a thin putty knife under the bottom of the cover and pop off the lower tabs. Once the lower tabs are loose, the cover lifts up and off!!
