Slow Ice Production

Clogged Condenser

My Icemaker Doesn't Make Much Ice

Poor production from an icemaker is very similar to a dead canary in a mine. It is an early indication of another problem.  It indicates a freezer temperature problem. An icemaker will not cycle unless the freezer is below 16F. This is way below freezing, so all the food is still frozen hard. A typical cause would be a clogged condenser.

Any ice production issue almost always means that the icemaker is fine. Only on rare occasion will a bad icemaker produce any ice at all. However, this can easily be confirmed by measuring the temperature. If the freezer is below, 15F replace the icemaker or the valve. Otherwise, fix the temperature problem.

Correct production is about a bin full a day. If all is well the icemaker should cycle every 3-4 hours. After a big party, let the ice maker catch up. Give it a chance.
