This is an easy disgnosis. It is so easy, it can be done over the phone. If a customer describes a roaring sound, you can be positive that the main bearings are shot. They have gotten wet and rusted up. Listen to a Maytag Atlantis with bad main bearings.

This is commonplace with all the single belt Maytag products and never happens with Whirlpool products. Of course it happens a lot with all front loaders. All of the Frigidaire/Electrolux and GE products also have this problem.
